Living room/entry addition, renovated kitchen, dining room, Portland, Oregon.

The owner was interested in adding a new living room, kitchen, and future master bedroom to his existing 800 square foot bungalow in a way that would blend into the existing house. A Brainstorm master plan proposed adding a new living room to the north side of the house, renovating and expanding the existing kitchen and turning the existing living room into a new dining area. A new master bedroom was also proposed between the existing house and garage. Based on the master plan, we prepared construction documents for the first phase work which included a 500 square foot vaulted living room with fireplace, a new entry, and a renovated kitchen and dining area. The slope of the new living room roof and scale of the room were adjusted to be the focus of the house. Extensive windows were placed on the east and west to provide light and cross ventilation. Kitchen and entry were treated as small "houses" inside the new addition.
