The project is a 654 square foot two story addition added to the rear of an existing 650 square foot 1920's bungalow in one of Portland's established neighborhoods. The first floor contains a master bedroom and covered outdoor patio. The second floor is a studio/future accessory dwelling unit. A modern structure, blatantly different from the existing building was the solution to the massing of the addition in relationship to the existing, the logistics of the construction, the client's budget, and the client's stylistic preferences. The master bedroom is reclusive while the studio has faceted vaulted ceilings and multiple windows to bring in light and provide framed views to the surrounding trees
